Angus – the elite of beef cattle breeds
Angus, also known as Aberdeen Angus, is a beef cattle breed from the north-east of Scotland. Angus is always polled. Angus can be both black and red. The Angus is specifically a maternal beef breed. Angus cows have good maternal traits. Angus cows take good care of their calves and have sufficient milk production level which ensures good calf growth. Angus is also specially appreciated for its excellent beef quality. Angus beef is known for its fine marbling, which gives the meat its juiciness and flavour.
Angus in Finland
Angus cattle suit very well into Finnish production environment. Angus is the third most common beef cattle breed in Finland. Angus cattle endure the winter cold and summer heat. Angus breed is particularly suitable for roughage based feeding and grass-fed production systems. The feed intake capability of Angus cattle can be utilized in Finnish grass silage based production. Angus cattle are good grazers. Angus can be successfully grazed on native-, seashore and arable pastures.
About the Association
Since 1981, the Finnish Angus Association has been active in promoting the Angus breed and developing Angus breeding in Finland.
Angus herds in Finland
